Notoriously difficult to handle, Pinot Noir is one of the most highly regarded red grape varieties. The Cote de Nuits in Burgundy produces arguably the finest examples of Pinot Noir: complex, silky, with aromas of raspberry and gamey, earthy notes. It is also grown in Canada, New Zealand, Chile, South Africa, Australia and California, where the 2004 film ‘Sideways’ brought about a surge in popularity. Words such as ‘seductive’, ‘sexy’ and ‘sublime’ are often used to describe Pinot Noir at its best. |
