 The Pinotage grape is a cross of two varieties being Cinsault and a Pinot Noir. The Pinotage grape is viewed as quality grape indigenous to South Africa. This Western Cape wine can be described as a quality wine with bananas, plums and cherries within the fruity bouquet and taste. This wine has comes with a rich tannin content, with the grape being introduced into South Africa in the early 20th Century. The Pinotage grape saw creation in 1925. Not until 1940 did the Pinotage grape saw commercial production. The Pinotage grape created a champion wine at the Cape Wine Show of 1959. This Pinotage brand was launched in 1961 and sees half a century of successfully producing a quality South African red wine. |
