Blantons Special Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon is a special bourbon that leaves no room for error. Quite simply, the manner in which Blantons Special Reserve bourbon is unique is in the procedure but not process. Blanton’s bourbon has to comply with American bourbon law which states bourbon must contain over 51% maize in the mash. Blanton’s were the first bourbon distillery not to blend the barrels to create a standard taste. The bourbon at Blanton’s is all single barrel. This means every barrel of bourbon produced is slightly different. Although the minimum time frame for bourbon to reach maturity is legally 2 years Blanton’s test every single barrel and will only bottle the bourbon when their master distiller believes the optimum taste has been achieved. Blanton’s reserve is high or fine quality bourbon which unlike most bourbon distillers still has very much hands on approach. The bourbon is hand bottled and packaged. Blanton’s have won many prizes for their quality. It is fair to assume that the human element of the reserve production has an influence on the taste. This is a unique bourbon made in a time honoured tradition which has set standards for other Bourbon distillers to emulate. Blanton’s refuse to become mechanised making them a special distillery and proud to produce a hand finished bourbon. Discounting the very much hands on way this unique bourbon is produced, it is also chill filtered which is a very gentle process of creating flavour, there are no colour additives and even the production of the bourbon in barrels has 8 testing plugs indicating the procedure of testing. The bourbon barrels plugs spell Blanton’s in honour to one of the employees. Everything about this reserve bourbon has style, from the production to the taste.
