Bols Creme de Cassis is a liqueur made from black currents, which grow in the vicinity of Dijon, the capital of Burgundy in France. Colour: Deep red when held up to the light tending toward a slightly darker colour. Aroma: Subtly like black currants. Flavour: A sweet, rich and fruity black currant (cassis) flavour with a long-lasting finish. Most widely used as a mix with white wine, champagne or dry vermouth. How to make RUSSIAN SPRING PUNCH Cocktail: Shake all ingredients except champagne with ice, strain over crushed ice and top with champagne: 15 mls BOLS Crème de Cassis liqueur, 60 ms Blackwoods Vodka, Top with Champagne, Sugar syrup (2 parts sugar:1 part water), 30 mls Freshly squeezed lemon juice. As with all successful drinks, variants abound. Many times Russian Spring Punches are made with muddled fruit such as strawberries or raspberries, and the cassis is often varied for other forest fruit liqueurs. Created by Dick Bradsell, this has been a best-seller in the UK since the late 1990s. It's a delicious luxury vodka collins with a nice forest fruit bite courtesy of the cassis. |
