James Pimm opened his first bar in the City of London in the 1840s and supplied Londoners with good food and drink, including a tonic sold as an aid to digestion. Pimms is still made to the original recipe which remains a closely guarded secret, known only to six people today. The No. 6 Cup, which uses vodka as its base, was invented after the Second World War as part of a range which included No. 2 Cup (Scotch based), No. 3 (brandy), No. 4 (rum) and No. 5 (rye). Only No. 1 and No. 6 are still in production today, and No. 6 is more rarely found.
